Discover Saint Savin and its surroundings :

  • Saint Savin, a small yet very authentic and typical French village. It’s mostly known for it’s magnificent Abbey registered at the Unesco World Heritage and it’s the perfect place to go if you’re passionate about history and ancient architecture. Moreover, located just above the river La Gartempe, lots of nature related activities are possible. You can go for a walk following La Vigne Aux Moines signs, ride a bike or go fishing.

After visiting the Abbey, we recommend you to go see the former abbot’s house, the mill in La Gassotte, Saint Savin old bridge, the archeological excavations center in Gué de Sciaux and the church of Saint Germain and Antigny. Don’t forget to pay a visit to Emmanuelle Rousse’s modern art gallery !

  • Montmorillion, Cité de l’Écrit. There is up to twenty shops, all painted in bright colors, where you can find bookshops, calligraphs and handworkers. If you want to go further, you can attend workshops, cultural activities or exhibits. If you’re more into history and architecture, Montmorillion preserved several buildings registered at the Unesco World Heritage : The Octogone, La Maison Dieu and its Saint Laurent Chapel, Notre-Dame church, and the Vieux Palais. Don’t forget to taste the famous Montmorillon Maracons !
  • Chauvigny, the medieval city. Inside the surrounding walls of Château des Évêques, they selected the most incredible birds from all around the world to put on an amazing show in a spectacular environment. If you’re more interested in castles, you can also visit le Châteaux des Évêques, le Château de la Clairbaudière and le Château d’Arcourt.
  • Angles sur l’Anglin, one of the most beautiful village in France. Walk among its picturesque allay and take a moment to visit the Roc-Aux-Sorciers, an Upper Paleolithic rock shelter site made famous by its relief wall carvings.
  • Poitiers, hometown of the Futuroscope ! If you like history better than amusement park, you can enjoy the old city center, the magnificent city hall and Notre-Dame church.
